The new reproduction project
On May 25, 2022, Amana, our little female bush dog, was finally able to be transferred to Criadouro OnçaPintada Park in Brazil.
Participate in species conservation
In order to ensure the genetic diversity of a species, coordinators from different regions of the world may need to organize international transfers. It is with this objective that the departure of our little dog from the bushes, born on July 16, 2017 at the PAL, was organized. Indeed, if Amana left for Brazil it was to join the male Monstrinho in order to create a breeding pair.
quite an adventure
Amana embarked on a beautiful 24-hour journey to join her friend. After saying goodbye to PAL trainers, she was transferred by truck to Paris-Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport to board straight for her new home in Brazil.
Once there, the healers of the Criadouro OnçaPintada park gradually put our two individuals in contact. As you can see on the video, they got along very well right away and don't let go. A real pleasure for all the teams!
A long-term job
While a transfer is always a unique moment, it is still a complicated process to put in place. After a long administrative and health procedure, it took no less than 3 years to obtain all the necessary authorizations for this transfer. As always, it is the European coordinator of EAZA (European Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums) who decides on the transfer of animals from parks to parks.
In this specific case, he put us in contact with his Brazilian counterpart from AZAB (Associaçao de Zoologicos e a Aquarios do Brasil) to ensure the conservation and reproduction of the bush dog in Brazil. This association certified by the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment aims to protect and reproduce the most endangered Brazilian species.
